What time does the tournament start?
The tournament is divided into two waves of play. The AM wave runs from 9AM-1 PM. The PM Wave runs from 2Pm-6PM. Teams are encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes before to warm-up, and to check out the tents, vendors, and live entertainment.
A full schedule will be released closer to the tournament date.
How do I register for the tournament?
Registration is conducted through our linked registration platform. It can be found here.
What is the registration fee?
The registration fees are split between modes of play. Our grass triples cost is $120 per team. Our Co-ed reverse 4's tournament is $155 per team. This includes taxes and processing fees, and comes with entry to the entertainment garden (for our 19+ participants), team packages, and free entries into the prize raffle.
Plus, most importantly, the chance to compete for the Showdown championship!
Can I register as an individual, or do I need a team?
You can register as an individual!
Simply select the "individuals" registration section, and input some information about yourself (skill level, desired division, anybody else who signed up as an individual who you would like to be paired with, etc.) We will do our best to fit you into a team!
You can register here
How many players are on a team?
This varies depending on the format. Grass triples host 3 players on the court at one time. Co-ed reverse 4's hosts four players on the court at one time (two men, and two women). Team captains can add up to eight players per roster.
What is the format of the tournament?
The tournament will be a round-robin format followed by knockout rounds. Round robin matches will be one set to 25 (no cap). The knockout rounds will follow a variable format. As of now, the initial rounds will be one set to 25 (no cap). The quarterfinals and onwards will be a best of 3 (21-21-15). The tournament director reserves the right to modify this format at any time, to maintain the pace of play, or for any other reason.
Are there different divisions or skill levels?
Absolutely! On top of there being 2 formats (grass triple, and co-ed reverse 4's), the tournament also offers elite and intermediate divisions.
The elite division is perfect for athletes with higher levels of volleyball experience (higher level club, university/college, pro, or extensive grass/beach exposure). The intermediate division is great for rec players, or athletes with moderate experience with volleyball.
If you are unsure what division to register in, feel free to contact us at kelownashowdown@gmail.com.
Can I register for Reverse 4's AND Triples?
The answer is YES! But there's a catch.
The short story is that both categories will be going on at the same time. Our advice is that yes, you should be able to play both. But, whatever your “second” team is, it would be wise to have an additional player on the roster as we cannot guarantee that conflicts won’t arise (especially on playoff Sunday)!
We will do our best to lay it out so that different categories play at different time slots, but we cannot guarantee that there will not be any overlap (so prepare by having an extra player on your roster if you plan to play in both divisions).
